<제목> What Can We Do with a Physics Degree?(물리학과를 졸업하고 무엇을 할수 있을까?
<초록> As students approach the end of their undergraduate journey in physics, questions about the future―career choices, research directions, and personal calling―inevitably arise. In this talk, I will share my own path from physics student to professor, along with the moments of uncertainty, curiosity, and the invaluable advice of others that helped shape it.
Back in 1999, just before starting my seventh semester in college, I asked myself: “What can I do with my physics degree?” At the time, it felt like one of the most important questions I could ask―and I suspect some of you may be asking the same thing now. But be careful: while important, this question can also be misleading.
Rather than offering a fixed roadmap, I want to explore the kinds of questions we should be asking in order to build a solid foundation for interdisciplinary problem-solving in an increasingly complex and fast-changing world. I will highlight how adopting a mindset of convergence or integrative thinking―across ideas, methods, and disciplines―has been essential in tackling challenging problems in condensed matter physics. Through examples from my own research, I will show how this integrative approach can open up new possibilities for you, the next generation of physicists.
