[2023 German Culture and Arts Festival - Narrative Horizons of Contemporary Performing Arts] (December 8, 2023, Friday)

Hello everyone~be moved

Today, as part of the [2023 German Culture and Arts Festival],

we explored the narrative horizons of contemporary performing arts, following modern cinema and contemporary music.

This opportunity was especially meaningful for our German department students.

The musical we attended was SNAP, a performance selected as the best Broadway production.

This performance was even more special as it was organized by Gruzam Productions

which is hosting the On-site Internship Program for the 2023 academic year,

where our fourth-year student, Minseon Cho, has been involved in planning and participation.

This made the event even more significant and memorable for all of us.

SNAP is a work recognized worldwide for its artistic and thematic excellence,

with its intuitive stage language and fairy-tale storytelling captivating the audience.

This performance was so remarkable that it was invited to the Canada's Saanar Biennale, marking a historic first for a magic-based performance.

As one of the finest works, it offered numerous opportunities to analyze modern performing arts from various perspectives.

Aligned with the theme of the German Cultural Arts Festival, this performance allowed for an in-depth interpretation from various angles, enhancing our academic capabilities.

With continuous stunning scenes and fantastic magical techniques, it felt like watching a film without words.

The 70 minutes passed by quickly, leaving no room for boredom, making the experience even more enjoyable.

The combination of various art genres such as mime, shadow graphics, and magic, including the use of sand magic and the creation of rain,

showcased the surrealism and beauty of modern art.

The card tricks in a mysterious forest, juggling in a doppelg?nger world, and general magic in the world of alchemy,

all intertwined with performance art using various media, made for an unforgettable and visually captivating experience.

It was even more impressive and proud to know that our own student, Minseon Cho, from the Department of German Language and Literature, was involved in such an outstanding performance.

It’s truly something to be proud of!

This experience led me to believe that other students in the department should also have opportunities to engage

in such magnificent and diverse experiences.

Through the 2023 German Cultural Arts Festival, we were able to encounter modern art in various forms, expand our perspectives,

and develop our academic capabilities, making it an incredibly valuable and inspiring time.

I hope that many of our German department members can share in even more diverse experiences together,

and I’m really looking forward to the graceful steps of the next generation of German students!
