The 2024 Academic Year (Freshman) Korea-Germany Cultural and Arts Exchange Exploration took place in Gimhae,
where the freshmen of this academic year had the opportunity to learn about and experience the history of ceramics in both Germany and Korea.
Korea, with its deep history of ceramics dating back to the Neolithic period around 5000 BC,
along with the influence of Chinese and Japanese ceramic history, provided a rich backdrop for this exploration.
The journey also traced the development of ceramics in Europe, where Germany was the first to succeed in porcelain manufacturing
in the early 18th century. In 1708, Germany succeeded in producing white porcelain,
and since then, the country has been renowned for its porcelain, particularly in the town of Meissen.
As such, the famous German porcelain manufacturer Meissen has contributed to the design of Adidas sneakers by incorporating ceramic design patterns and techniques.
These ceramic design methods have since evolved into various modern design examples,
showcasing the lasting influence of traditional craftsmanship on contemporary creativity.
By sharing this experience with the freshmen, we visited the Gimhae Museum to learn about the history of ceramics and the history of Gimhae.
In addition to ceramics, we also discussed examples of cultural exchanges between Korea and Germany.
It was a valuable time to explore the future direction of Korea-Germany cultural exchange and reflect on the roles we can play as majors in this ongoing exchange.
