The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to reduce the amount of marine plastic waste that is currently generated from 67,000 tons annually to 27,000 tons by 2030 by 59.7%, and to reduce the amount to zero by 2050.

To this end, first, a deposit system will be introduced for fishing gear and buoys, which are the main culprits in the mass production of marine debris.
