Man Sues Cinema for Showing Too Many Ads
A man in India has won a case against a cinema chain after claiming that the amount of advertisements shown before a movie caused him "mental agony."
The man, who is in his 30s from Bengaluru, India, took action against Indian cinema chain PVR Inox, after a movie he was watching finished 25 minutes later than it was supposed to.
The man bought three tickets to see the movie Sam Bahadur in December 2023.
The movie was supposed to end at 6:30 p.m., but because of 25 minutes of advertisements shown before the movie started, it didn't finish until around 7 p.m.
According to the court documents, the man claimed the movie's "trailers, advertisements and other fillers" caused him to miss an important work call. He asked for compensation for his losses, which he said could not be measured in money.
PVR Inox said that some of the advertisements were actually public service announcements, and legally they had to show them. It also said that showing advertisements before the movie made sure that people who were late didn't miss it.
But the man told CNN that there were only two public service announcements before the movie. The other 17 were all for products such as mobile phones or cars.
In the end, the court agreed with the man, saying that his time was wasted, and ordered the theater chain to pay compensation. The court ruling said that "time is money," and that making people sit through too many advertisements is not right, especially for those with busy schedules.
PVR Inox was ordered to pay the man around $230 for wasting his time.

why gen z is saying no to capital letters
seeing a sentence like this might make your english teacher cry, but for many young people, it just feels right.
Many young people today are choosing not to use capital letters when they write, especially when posting online. For them, using lowercase letters feels more natural and relaxed ― or they just think these letters are nicer to look at.
Maelle Kouman, 24, says she stopped using capital letters on her phone when she was a teenager.
"It's a way to communicate in a way that feels like me," she told The Guardian, saying that using capital letters can sometimes give messages a "serious tone."
This trend is especially popular among Gen Z ― those born between 1997 and 2012. Famous artists like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift have used lowercase for their song names, and big brands like Spotify and beauty company Amika are doing the same to connect with young people.
While Gen Z is making lowercase popular now, the idea isn't actually new.
E.E. Cummings, a well-known writer from the 20th century, was famous for using lowercase letters in his poems. And writer Gloria Jean Watkins used lowercase for deeper reasons. Watkins, who was better known by the name "bell hooks," used lowercase in her name because she wanted people to focus on her ideas, not her name.
Still, young people can't use lowercase letters all the time. Most work and school environments still expect proper spelling and grammar, and using only lowercase letters might look lazy or unprofessional. So, even those who prefer lowercase still use capitals when they have to.
