Provide sustainable food choices for all on campus, including vegetarian and vegan food
1. Pusan National University(PNU) procures food ingredients through competitive bidding in accordance with the Contracts to Which the State Is a Party Act, following fair and transparent procedures. For the 2024 student cafeteria procurement, bidder eligibility was limited to small businesses and local companies based in Busan City and Gyeongsangnam do Province to promote local agricultural products, increase incomes for small-scale producers, shorten distribution channels, and secure fresher ingredients. Contract terms require suppliers to provide HACCP certified products and domestically sourced agricultural and fishery items to ensure sustainable, safe meals.

2. All campus cafeterias offer diverse menus, including vegetarian options, and the origin of major ingredients (beef, pork, eggs, fish) is disclosed on the university website. Campus caf?s and convenience stores sell vegetarian choices such as cooked sweet potatoes, corn, and salads. The student residence operates a halal kitchen, which PNU actively promotes via social media to expand food options.


3. For free meal events, PNU sources ingredients through mutual growth agreements with local agricultural cooperatives to boost regional consumption. In 2024, after signing a cooperation agreement with the Miryang Agricultural Cooperative, PNU held a “Promote Local Rice Consumption” breakfast and committed to prioritizing local rice purchases for campus cafeterias to support ongoing local agricultural revitalization.
