[8.2.3.] Employment policy on discrimination 2024
Have a policy on ending discrimination in the workplace (including discrimination based on religion, sexuality, gender, age or refugee status)
1. Pusan National University(PNU) defines acts that create an unfair employment or personnel environment based on sex or gender as “sexual harassment” under the Human Rights Center Regulations. The university operates a Gender Equality Counseling Office and an Investigation and Deliberation Committee to provide counseling and remedies for victims. Where protective measures are necessary, the Human Rights Center may, in its own authority, separate the offices of the victim and perpetrator and request disciplinary action. In 2024 the regulations were amended to limit any single gender to no more than 60% of committee membership, ensuring gender-balanced perspectives in policy development and follow-up on workplace discrimination.
2. In 2024 the General Affairs Division’s Human Resources Team concluded a collective agreement with the University Contract Workers’ Union that explicitly prohibits discrimination in recruitment, hiring, wages, promotion, and retirement. The General Affairs Division also provided online and offline anti-discrimination training for faculty and staff. PNU’s regulations, including the University Contract Staff Employment Rules, explicitly prohibit workplace discrimination based on nationality, gender, religion, or social status.

3. The Diversity Committee at PNU upholds equal opportunity in hiring, promotion, and welfare and includes diverse representatives such as the Director of the Human Rights Center and the Chair of the Women Professors Association. In 2024 the committee published the Diversity Report, which analyzes gender, rank, and alma mater of key faculty in major campus positions to identify potential discrimination structures and guide measures for a discrimination-free workplace.
