[11.4.7.] Local authority collaboration regarding planning redevelopment

Work with local authorities to address planning issues and development, including ensuring that local residents are able to access affordable housing

1. After signing an MOU with Yeongdo gu, Busan, PNU’s “Education and Research Project on Innovative Design for Living SOC Utilizing Vacant Spaces in Declining Cities” supports urban regeneration through collaboration with local authorities. In 2024 the group ran an Idea Living Lab with residents to improve community spaces for the elderly, engaging citizens from field surveys (site geography and housing deterioration analysis) to final improvement plans.

Professor Shin Gu-woo, the project director, also participated in policy forums, chaired the “Resident Discussion Forum for Solving Vacant-House Problems in the Original Downtown Area” in Dong-gu, Busan, and led discussions on aging public rental housing at the Busan Metropolitan Corporation’s “Aging Public Housing Policy Forum.”

2. The Dept. of Interior Environment Design implements community linked programs to improve residential environments and living infrastructure. In 2024 it presented resident participation design projects addressing aging housing and accessibility, aligned with the “2030 Yeongdo Vision” regional development strategy.

3. PNU collaborates with the volunteer club “Awesome” and local universities to provide housing repair services for vulnerable households under Dongnae-gu, Busan “Free Home Repair Support Project.” Dongnae-gu identifies low-income households in poor condition, and the club performs repairs; in March 2024, they completed repairs for three low-income families.
