[12.2.5] Policy for minimisation of plastic use Have policies around use minimisation of plastic |
Pusan National University(PNU) aims for a carbon-neutral green campus by following the 'Guidelines for Reducing the
Use of Disposable Products in Public Institutions' to cut down on plastic use.
1. Daily Carbon-Neutral Practices
PNU has created an annual action plan aligned with its 2021 Carbon-Neutral Green Campus Declaration.
It includes nine tasks under three main areas: promoting eco-friendly campus life, enhancing carbon-neutral education and research, and building a culture of carbon neutrality.
A key initiative is reducing plastic use by encouraging reusable cups and improving recycling through proper waste separation.
The Carbon Neutrality Committee, made up of faculty, is researching policies to involve students in carbon neutrality efforts.
2. Cutting Disposable Product Use
In line with the guidelines, PNU promotes reusable cups over plastic bottles at meetings and events.
It has also installed rainwater removers for wet umbrellas instead of using plastic covers.
3. Minimizing Plastic Usage
PNU’s plastic reduction policies extend to hospitals and student organizations.
Dr. Lee Sang-don, president of Yangsan PNU Hospital, supports the 'Bye Bye Plastic Challenge' led by the Ministry of
Environment to encourage responsible consumption and reduced plastic use.
The PNU Environmental Association promotes actions like using multi-use containers and conserving energy through the 'PNU GREEN' campaign, part of the broader 'PNU Carbon Neutral Is Okay Today' initiative.
