[12.2.5.] Policy for minimisation of plastic use 2024

1.In line with its "Carbon Neutral Green Campus Strategy" established in 2021, PNU updates its carbon neutrality policies annually and continuously promotes initiatives aimed at reducing plastic usage. In 2024, PNU distributed the "2024 Carbon Neutral Green Campus Implementation Guidelines," which outline practical measures, such as using reusable cups, eliminating refreshment services, and reducing packaging during meetings and work activities to minimize plastic consumption.

2. PNU enforces a plastic minimization policy by reducing the purchase of plastic-based items and promoting recycling through the "Regular Asset Inventory" and "Disposal System for Unused Items." In 2024, surplus goods identified in the asset inventory-such as chairs and computer monitors containing significant amounts of plastic-were redistributed to other departments or donated to non-profit organizations. This process helped prevent the additional production and procurement of plastic items at PNU.

3. In 2024, PNU issued an official notice titled “Practical Instructions for Reducing Single-Use Items (Plastic Straws, Cheering Supplies, etc.)” to regulate plastic use among campus members. PNU also promoted recycling by installing plastic recycling bins and IoT-enabled waste separation bins. Additionally, tumbler washers were installed in high-traffic areas such as building lobbies and lecture halls to reduce the use of disposable plastic cups and bottled water.

4. In 2024, the president of PNU participated in the “Bye Bye Plastic Challenge,” organized by the Korea Ministry of Environment, to advocate for plastic reduction and the use of reusable items. The Central Environmental Club at PNU actively raised awareness on campus by sharing information about greenwashing related to plastic bottles through social media campaigns.
