[12.2.8.] Minimisation policies extended to suppliers 2024
Since establishing its “Carbon Neutral Green Campus Strategy” in 2021, PNU has continually implemented policies to reduce the use of disposable items and plastics, as well as overall waste generation. PNU is extending these policies to its suppliers and construction contractors to further lessen environmental impacts.
1. PNU actively adheres to the Korea Ministry of Environment’s Act on the Promotion of Purchase of Green Products. Accordingly, it mandates the use of recycled or eco-friendly products in various environmental improvement and building construction projects. In the 2024 office space renovation, contractors were required to use eco-label certified products, including recycled materials and items that reduce hazardous substances. The project also enforced the separate removal and recycling of reusable components during demolition. Additionally, suppliers of construction materials for campus walkways had to comply with Korean Industrial Standards and minimize unnecessary packaging. All procurement practices were required to specify lawful disposal in accordance with the Waste Management Act in the task instructions.
2. Furthermore, campus stores at PNU, which sell daily necessities and stationery, prohibit the free distribution of plastic bags to control unnecessary use of disposable plastics. The stores also promote resource recovery and recycling by installing separate waste sorting bins throughout the campus.
