[17.4.1.] Education for SDGs commitment to meaningful education

Have a commitment to meaningful education around the SDGs across the university, relevant and applicable to all students

1. Pusan National University(PNU) designates “Open-minded Thinking & Linguistic Expression” as a required liberal-arts course to foster students’ character as members of a democratic society. The course covers debate fundamentals, 21st-century capitalist labor, gender, and discrimination.

2. PNU offers integrated courses to develop core SDG competencies across majors. The College of Economics and International Trade requires “Global Economy and Leadership” for all five departments to strengthen students’ understanding of globalization and leadership beyond major-specific knowledge. The 2024 course included lectures on global leadership and sustainability partnerships, featuring special talks by IKEA’s Chief Sustainability Officer and the Ambassador of Chile to Korea

3. In the 2024 academic year, PNU offered 494 SDG courses. Representative required major courses include Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Water Quality Management, Community Welfare, and Studio for Sustainable Community. Elective major courses include Labor Economics and International Social Welfare.

4. PNU produces and provides SDG lectures via K-MOOC, enabling free access to SDG knowledge and practice. In 2024, offered courses included “Urban and Environmental Design”, “Contract Law for a Fair Society”, and “Introduction to Atmospheric Environmental Science”. Professor Seok-chan Yoon’s “Contract Law for a Fair Society” was selected as a Blue Ribbon Outstanding Course in the 2024 K-MOOC evaluation.

5. The Institute of Liberal Arts operated the 2024 non-credit course “PNU Era and Intellectualism,” offering SDG-related special lectures on topics such as the climate crisis and smart agriculture.
