Major research area
1. Development and efficacy study of novel biomaterials
Our laboratory develop the novel biomaterlas originated from various natural resources as well as evaluate the therapeutic effects and toxicity of novel biomaterals using mammalian cell and various animal models prior to receiving Korea FDA approval. Also, these process is essential for the commercialization of the medical devices and drugs. Recently, our laboratory investigate the efficacy and toxicity of several novel biomaterals as follows;
 - Efficacy study and the verification of action mechanism of natural biomaterials on the Alzheimer’s disease
 - Efficacy study and the verification of action mechanism of natural biomaterials on the diabetes and obesity
 - Development and efficacy study of wound dressing
 - Development and efficacy study of gold nanoparticles on the surgical and burn wound
 - Development and efficacy study of anti-aging compounds
 - Development and efficacy study of laxative drug on the constipation

2. Development of novel disease model
Actually, a large number of disease model is widely applied in efficacy study of novel drug that is treated human disease. Our laboratory develop various animal model for human disease and characterizes their phenotypes and physiological symptoms. Also, our laboratory teach many important skins including molecular biological techniques, cell culture technique, microinjection technique and animal experiment technique in order to need the development of animal model. Presently, our laboratory have several animal model for human disease as follows;
  - Model for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease : NSE/PS2 Tg mice, NSE/APP Tg mice, NSE/Nicastrin Tg mice, NSE/Pen-2 Tg mice
  - Model for Diabetes : IDE Tg mice
  - Model for allergens screening : IL-4/Luc/CNS-1 Tg mice
Furthermore, our laboratory have various techniques for animal model using chemical injection and cell injection as follows;
  - Diabetes induced by streptozotocine treatment
  - Neurodigenerative disease induced by TMT and scopolamin treatment
  - Allergy and inflammation induced by PA and albumin treatment
  - Cancer transfer with cancer cell injection
  - Biopolymer transfer model

3. Scientific care and management of laboratory animals
Laboratory animals is widely employed in the evaluation of efficacy and toxicity for drug, food, medical device and oriental medicines. Also, they provide an important information about physiological and structural alterations to treatment of drugs. Our laboratory study the techniques for management of laboratory animal at international level and analysis the information for animal welfare. Especially, we teach a diversity of skills which need for animal experiment through a workshop and education programs.
