Introduction
The Department of German Language & Literature was established in March, 1978, for the study of German literature and linguistics. In the present days, as a response to globalization, the curricula concentrate on practical German conversation aiming at educating foreign affairs professionals as well as researching the traditional areas like the history of German literature, the critic of German literary works, etc. With the Academic Exchange Agreements made with the University of Bamberg(2006) and the University of Hannover(2007), annually the department are sending a few dozens of students to Germany and are welcoming German exchange students. Under the same keynote of internationalization, as hitherto exemplified, German conversation classes came to have a decisive weight from this year(2009) on. And the residence of the professors and the language assistants sent by DAAD and the German exchange students provides an ideal circumstances for the betterment of the students’ German conversation skills, with the chances of close contacts with German culture by various events like Maifest and Weihnachtsfest.
Career after Graduation
Careers after graduation are quite varied, with many options existing. Students find their way, making the most of their degrees in Language & Literature, into the educational world as professors, lectures and teachers, or into the world of the press, or into the trading and the shipping companies, or, especially, into general large companies or financial-related companies, when they have completed the courses for their minor, or the courses for their multiple major, in Business-related fields. The department boasts about the high percentage of employment of its graduates and is nowadays, with the effects of the reinforcement of conversation courses and abroad language study courses, having more and more students who are directly employed by companies in Germany.
