Career opportunities after graduation As biological information is greatly expanding in recent years, it is expected that demand for biologists and biotechnologists will increase more than any other scientists. Therefore there are several career paths for a graduate with biology major.
For an academic career, a graduate with biology major can go to a graduate school and continue biological research in a specific field. Alternatively, one can decide to work in a research institute. For an industrial career, one can rely on the biological knowledge and experience during undergraduate education and apply for a job in biotech companies (e.g. pharmaceutical industry, food industry, biomedical industry) or in environmental impact assessment agency. Another possible career path is governmental and administrative positions in public hygiene institutes and environment-related institutes.
Students who are interested in teaching sciences in middle and high schools choose to take classes required for a teaching certificate.
Obviously a biological major is most favorable for students who want to prepare a career for physician or doctors of dental or Korean medicine. By taking biological classes, they should have a higher chance to be qualified for medical schools.
It is very encouraging to see excellent applicants entering the department recently. We hope to help the students to consider multiple career paths and to find a perfect fit for each. To do so, we will strive to set up collaboration with other academic units and industry.
